About the M18 Series AR Recoil Buffers.
Why the name M18 and what do the additional letters mean?
We began design and testing our recoil buffers in 2018. Since we had no good original name for them,
we began calling them the M18. So, the name just stuck.
M18K recoil buffers are primarily designed for use in M4 type ar15 carbines. They are a direct replacement for the
original recoil buffer. Some firearm enthusiasts have used them in certain ar10 carbines using A5 stock extensions
with good results.
M18K, M18K H, M18K H1 and M18K H2 all are different weights. The standard K model weighs in at 3 oz, the weight of a
standard recoil buffer. The H, H1 and H2 all correspond with approximate weights of their standard counterparts.
We decided to offer a wide range of weights so the end user can fine tune their rifle to best suit their needs.
Within the M18k line, we offer a slightly extended length pistol caliber carbine model. Due to the nature of direct blow back
actions, we needed as much weight as we could get. So, we extended the length and built this model 100% from
heat treated 17-4 stainless steel.
Additionally, we offer the M18k 308. As the name implies, this model is designed to replace the standard ar10 recoil buffer
in DPMS patterned carbines.
M18G, this is the model for fixed stock ar15’s. Like the carbine model, it drops in using the standard recoil spring.
We offer models to replace the ar15 and ar10 recoil buffers.
For those who own a Barrett m82 50bmg, we offer an option to replace the factory recoil buffer.
Why did you design the M18 recoil buffer?
We were not satisfied with hydraulic recoil buffers on the market and felt that things could be improved with a mechanical
option. Through testing we found that our buffers performed as well or better than the hydraulic options.
The huge difference comes when a hydraulic recoil buffer is damaged. They cannot be repaired, where the M18 series can
easily be repaired.
How does the M18 recoil buffer work?
The M18 series drop in, using the original recoil spring and replacing the factory recoil buffer. During the firing sequence,
when the rear of the buffer impacts the end of the stock extension, the internal spring and piston compress.
This adds additional spring resistance to the bolt carrier slowing it down until the piston closes.
This dramatically reduces muzzle flip and aids in rapid shot recovery. Upon returning to battery, the internal weight combined
with the mass of the piston assembly reduce bolt bounce.
Our 3oz recoil buffer has been successful in full auto ar15’s due to this design feature where a standard 3oz recoil buffer
would fail. In addition to reducing recoil, the collapse of the piston assembly will lower the rate of fire in a F/A AR making it
more controllable.
A side note: By changing recoil spring tensions (reduced power or extra power), bolt carrier weights and
adjustable gas blocks can affect performance for good or for bad.
For example, by using a lightweight bolt carrier and heavier recoil spring, you will have an increase in bolt velocity.
This will require a heavier recoil buffer such as the m18k H2 in order to properly eliminate bolt bounce.
Another example is using an adjustable gas block, light weight bolt carrier, reduced power recoil spring and the
M18K recoil buffer. Adjusting the gas block to minimal amount required to operate results in a cleaner/cooler rifle with
little to zero recoil.
Why do I need a better recoil buffer, it’s just a .223?
We get this a lot. Despite the ar15 being a .223 or 5.56, they still have recoil. If you want to shoot fast more accurately,
we can help. Recoil reduction is up to half, depending on variables such as caliber and barrel length. Those running AR-15's
in different calibers will also benefit from our recoil buffers. The M18 mechanical recoil buffer is perfect for 6.8spc,
300 Blackout, 6.5 Grendel, 50 Beowulf, and 7.62x39. Just to name a few.
Where are your products made?
All of our products are manufactured in Northwest Pennsylvania.
We do our best to use local support whenever possible. Mercer Wire and Spring in Townville PA supplies our springs,
American Tinning and Galvanizing in Erie PA does our anodizing; Peters Heat Treat in Meadville PA heat treats and preps
our steel. All of our round stock comes from Alro Steel in Imperial PA.

Refund & Shipping Policy
A full refund or replacement will be issued for any defects in material. Upon our receipt of the returned product(s), we reserve the right to evaluate the merchandise to determine if a refund or exchange will be made. If a product is damaged due to abnormal use, neglect, improper use, or any other manner which it is not designed or intended for, no refund or exchange will be made.
Refunds will be issued in the same manner in which original payment was made (i.e. credit card purchases will be returned in the form of a credit to the original card account). Credit card refunds are subject to a 3% return fee. NOTE: If we deem a return was made without reasonable cause, or wherein our judgment the product meets the advertised condition, the refund will be subject to a 15% restocking fee.
Cozad manufacturing ships all products through USPS, we will email a shipping confirmation with tracking number once item ships. Items typically ship with-in two days of receiving order excluding holidays and weekends. We do not ship on holidays or Sundays.
